BEREA, OHIO -- The Baldwin-Wallace College women's soccer team built a 3-1 advantage early in the second half only to see the host Alma (Mich.) College Scots score three unanswered goals en route to a 4-3 victory in the season opener for both teams today (Wednesday, September 1, 2010) in Alma.

With the loss, the Yellow Jackets are now 0-1 overall and next play this Saturday (Sept. 4) when they travel to Erie, Pennsylvania and play Moravian (Pa.) College at 12:00 noon in the annual Herb Lauffler Penn State Behrend University Tournament. BW also plays the host school on Sunday (Sept. 5) at 12:00 noon. With its win, Alma is 1-0.

Alma opened the scoring at the 6:34 mark when senior Jessica Swan scored the first of two goals. B-W countered at the 30:57 mark to tie the score at 1-1 when sophomore forward Brigitte Petrash (Parma/ Normandy) scored. The game remained deadlocked at 1-1 at the intermission.

In the second half, B-W took a 2-1 lead at the 54:57 mark when freshman midfielder Heather Keller (Parma/ Senior) scored, and then built its advantage to 3-1 less than four minutes later when freshman forward Bucky Gammiere (Mentor/Lake Catholic) scored at the 58:34 mark. For Petrash, Keller and Gammiere it was their first career goal.

But Alma came right back to make the score 3-2 with a goal from junior forward Alli Meuer at the 59:29 mark and tied the scored at 3-3 when Swan tallied her second goal at the 73:43 mark. The Scots then scored the game-winner at the 80:32 mark when freshman midfielder Taryn Handyside scored. Alma then held off the Yellow Jackets to claim the win.

In net, B-W freshman Tina Mathur (Mason) played all 90 minutes and was credited with five saves.
