BEREA, OHIO - The Baldwin-Wallace College women's soccer team lost to Ohio Athletic Conference rival and fifth-ranked Otterbein University, 3-1, today (Saturday, October 9, 2010) in an OAC match in Westerville. This was the first game of a women's and then men's doubleheader.
With its loss, B-W is now 5-7-2 overall and 0-2-1 OAC, and next plays on Tuesday, Oct. 12 when it hosts OAC-rival Heidelberg University on the pitch of Tressel Field at The George Finnie Stadium in Berea at 7:00 p.m. With its win, Otterbein is now 10-0-1 overall and 3-0 in the OAC.
In the first half, Otterbein scored the only goal at the 36:56 when senior forward Lindsey Rudibaugh took a through ball in the middle of the box from senior midfielder Tara Smith.
In the second half, the Cardinals increased their to 2-0 at the 53:44 mark when Rudibaugh scored her second goal.
B-W closed the gap to 2-1 at the 75:54 mark when junior forward Angelica Meggitt (Amherst/ Steele) scored her second goal of the season unassisted when the ball bounced over the goalies head.
The Cardinals outshot the Yellow Jackets, 17-5, and outcornered them, 10-0.
In net, B-W senior Caitlin Sutter (Toledo/ Sylvania Southview) played all 90 minutes and made six saves.
Following its match with Heidelberg next Tuesday, the BW women will join the men when they host another OAC doubleheader at Finnie Stadium in Berea on Saturday, Oct. 16 on "Kick It for the Cure" Day. The women kickoff at 4:30 p.m. and the Yellow Jacket and Polar Bear men play at 7:00 p.m.
