BEREA, OHIO - Sophomore midfielder Lindsey Mikula (Rocky River) scored her second match-winning goal in overtime this season as the Baldwin-Wallace College women's soccer team defeated host Hiram College, 3-2, tonight (Wednesday, September 15, 2010) in Hiram.
Mikula's match-winning came at the 93:00 minute mark of the first overtime. The goal was her third of the season. Mikula also scored the match-winner on Sept. 5 in a 2-1 overtime win versus host Penn State Behrend (Pa.) in the consolation match of the Behend Tournament.
With its win, B-W is now 4-3 overall and next plays on Saturday, Setember 18 when the Yellow Jackets host Grove City College of Pennsylvania in their home opener on Tressel Field at The George Finnie Stadium in Berea at 4:30 p.m. The game is the first of a women's and men's doubleheader. The men kickoff at 7:00 p.m. With its loss, Hiram is now 3-3 overall.
The Terriers opened the scoring at the 14:09 mark of the first half to take a 1-0 lead. B-W tied the match at the 31:07 mark when freshman midfielder Heather Keller (Parma/ Senior) scored her fourth goal of the campaign with an assist from sophomore forward Angie Wigton (Worthington/ Worthington Christian). B-W then took a 2-1 lead when Wigton scored an unassisted goal at the 40:32 mark. The tally was Wigton�s first of the season. The game remained 2-1 in favor of B-W at the intermission.
In the second half, Hiram tied the score at 2-2 at the 75:51 mark, and that set the stage for Mikula's match-winner.
The Yellow Jackets outshot the Terriers, 16-10, and outcornered them, 3-2.
In net, B-W junior Katie Finley (Vermilion) played all 93 minutes, made four saves and earned her second win this season against no losses.
Following its match against Grove City (Pa.), the Yellow Jackets next play on Tuesday, Sept. 21 when they travel to play cross-town rival Case Western Reserve University at 7:30 p.m.
