Women's Soccer Team Defeats Christopher Newport (Va.), 2-1, to End Trip to Virginia

BEREA, OHIO - The Baldwin-Wallace College women's soccer team beat host Christopher Newport University, 2-1, today (Saturday, September 12, 2009) in the final round of the Christopher Newport Chick-fil-A Classic Tournament in Newport News, Virginia.

With its win, B-W is now 3-2-1 overall and next plays on Wednesday, Sept. 16 when it hosts traditional rival Hiram College in the opener of a women's and men's doubleheader at The George Finnie Stadium in Berea. Game time is 4:30 p.m. with the men playing at 7:00 p.m. With its loss, CNU is now 0-4-1 this season.

The Captains opened the scoring at the 37:44 mark when Katie Jaywork scored unassisted. The Yellow Jackets quickly answered at the 39:27 mark when senior forward Natalie Fox (Canfield) netted her first goal of the season, unassisted.

B-W won the game late in the second half on a goal from junior midfielder Vickie Dreiling (Boardman/Cardinal Mooney) at the 87:07 mark. Dreiling's goal was also her first of the season.

Overall, the Captains outshot the Yellow Jackets, 13-7, and CNU outcornered BW, 8-4.

In goal for B-W, sophomore Meagan McLaughlin (Warren/ Youngstown Cardinal Mooney) played all 90 minutes. She made eight saves.

Following its game against Hiram, the B-W women travel to Grove City, Pennsylvania next Saturday, Sept. 19 to play Grove City College at 3:30 p.m.
