Women's Soccer Team Plays Oberlin to 1-1 Tie in Berea

BEREA, OHIO - The Baldwin-Wallace College women's soccer team tied visiting Oberlin College, 1-1, this evening (Wednesday, September 9, 2009) on Tressel Field at The George Finnie Stadium in Berea.

The Yellow Jackets are now 2-1-1 overall while Oberlin moves to 1-1-1.

B-W had the only scoring threat of the first half on a well-placed cross from senior forward Natalie Fox (Canfield), but a leaping grab by Oberlin goalie Christie Zelnik kept the game scoreless.

The Jackets eventually broke the scoreless tie at 34:01 of the second half when sophomore forward Noelle Fox (Canfield) scored on a break-a-way for her team-leading third goal of the season.

Oberlin then tied the game at 17:50 with an unassisted goal from Evanne Gordon. The goal also broke B-W sophomore goalie Meagan McLaughlin's (Warren/ Cardinal Mooney) scoreless streak at 207 minutes and 10 seconds.

Neither team was able to score over the final 17:50 of regulation or 20 minutes of overtime play and the game ended in a 1-1 tie.

McLaughlin entered in the second half and made one save to move to 2-0-1 on the year. Junior Becky Miner (Berea) played the first half and also made one save.

The Yellow Jackets are back in action this weekend at the Captains Classic in Newport News, Virginia. B-W plays Virginia Wesleyan College at 7:00 p.m. on Friday and tournament host Christopher Newport (Va.) at 5:00 p.m. on Saturday.
