BEREA, OHIO - The Baldwin-Wallace College women's soccer team lost to host Penn State-Behrend, 2-1 in overtime, in the championship game of the Herb Lauffer Tournament in Erie, Pennsylvania today (Sunday, September 6, 2009).
With the loss, B-W is now 2-1 on the season, while PSU-Behrend improves 3-0.
The lone score for B-W was an unassisted goal supplied by sophomore forward Noelle Fox (Canfield), who tallied her second goal of the season at the 16:11 mark. PSU-Behrend answered in the second half at the 69:00 with a goal from Glennis Robash. The Lions' Kourtney Gasparovic won the game in overtime at 98:55 with an unassisted goal.
Overall, the Lions outshot B-W, 8-4 but were outcornered by the Jackets, 6-4.
In goal, sophomore Meagan McLaughlin (Warren/Cardinal Mooney) earned the start and recorded one save and did not give up a goal in 45 minutes played. Junior Becky Miner (Berea) played the second period and overtime also recording one save.
The next women's soccer game is on Wednesday, Sept. 9 when the Yellow Jackets host traditional rival Oberlin College at 7:00 p.m. at Finnie Stadium in Berea. After that game, B-W travels to Newport News, Virginia next Friday and Saturday September 11-12 to play a pair of Virginia opponents. The Yellow Jackets take on Virginia Wesleyan at 5:00 p.m. on Friday and Christopher Newport on Saturday at 7:00 p.m.
