BEREA, Ohio–Junior All-Ohio Athletic Conference guard Audrey Smolik (Strongsville) recorded her second career double-double as the Baldwin Wallace University women's basketball team captured the BW Invitational Championship as it defeated Calvin (Mich.) College by a final score of 80-62 in Rudolph Ursprung Gymnasium inside the Lou Higgins Center.

Smolik, who scored a game-high 20 points and grabbed a game-best 10 rebounds, was named the Most Valuable Player of the tournament.  Senior All-OAC guard Jessica Lairson (Louisville) was named to the All-Tournament team after scoring 11 points.  Calvin was led by Maria DeKuiper scored 18 points and Kayla Englehard and Abby VanderWoude each added 10.

In the first half, the Yellow Jackets opened the game on a 5-0 run just 1:04 into the half on buckets from Smolik and senior center Lexi Rohrbach (Tiffin/ Columbian) as well as a free throw from freshman guard Mackenzie Colombo (Strasburg).  BW would extend its lead to 11-5 on a jumper from Smolik at 17:23.

The Knights would cut the lead down to 16-13 on a layup from Breanna Verkaik with 13:09 remaining in the opening period.  The Yellow Jackets would respond with a 7-0 run to push the lead to a first half high 10 points at 23-13 on a three-pointer from sophomore guard Alissa Munro (Mansfield/ Lexington) at 10:45.  Calvin went on an 8-0 run to cut the lead down to two-points at 23-21 on traditional three-point play by Hannah Acre at the 8:59 mark.  The Knights would outscore BW 21-18 over the remainder of the half to lead 42-41 at the intermission.
 
In the second half, the Yellow Jackets opened the scoring and regained the lead at 44-42 on a three-pointer by junior guard Shari Mangas (Leipsic) just 15 seconds into stanza.   The game would be tied up four times with the last coming at 52-52 at 13:34. BW would go on a 11-0 run to take a 63-52 advantage with 11:29 remaining.  Sophomore guard Ally Dehart(Beaver, Pa.) accounted for five points and Colombo and Munro each had three.
 
After the 11-0 run, the Yellow Jackets would outscore Calvin 17-10 over the remainder of the game to win the BW Invitational Championship by a final of 80-62.
 
BW will return to action on Wednesday, December 4 when it opens Ohio Athletic Conference play and hosts Ohio Northern University at 7:30 p.m.
