Lexi Rohrbach Leads BW Women’s Basketball Past Mount Union

BEREA, Ohio – Senior center Lexi Rohrbach (Tiffin/Columbian) scored a game-high 23 points as the Baldwin Wallace University women's basketball team defeated the University of Mount Union in an Ohio Athletic Conference game by a final score of 73-52 in the Ursprung Gymnasium inside the Lou Higgins Center.   
 
In addition to Rohrbach for BW (7-2, 3-1 OAC), junior guard Shari Mangas (Leipsic) tied a career-high with 19 points.  Mount Union (5-4, 0-4 OAC) was led by sophomore guard Annie Bova with 10 points.
 
The Yellow Jackets opened the game on a 4-0 run on a pair of jumpers from Mangas and junior guard Audrey Smolik (Strongsville) at the 17:47 mark.   The Purple Raiders quickly responded with a 6-0 run of their own to take a 6-4 lead as Bova buried a pair of three-pointers with the last coming with 16:25 remaining.
 
BW answered back with a 5-0 run to regain the lead at 9-6 when Rohrbach hit a jumper at 13:43.  Mount Union regained the lead at 10-9 when sophomore guard Cassi Bowen knocked down a pair of free throws with 11:06 left in the opening half.
 
The Yellow Jackets answered once again with a 7-0 run to take a 16-10 lead as Mangas scored five points on a jumper and triple and sophomore guard Alissa Munro (Mansfield/Lexington) hit a jumper with 7:26 remaining.
 
The Purple Raiders would outscore BW 15-13 over the remainder of the first half but trailed the Yellow Jackets 29-25 at the intermission.

BW opened the second half on a 15-4 run to extend its lead to 44-29 on a three-pointer from Mangas at the 13:37 mark.  Mount Union responded with a 6-2 run of its own to cut the lead down to 46-35 when freshman forward Robyn Brown spilt a pair of free throws with 11:56 left to play.
 
BW responded with a 9-4 run and would not look back as it push its lead to as many as 21 points at 73-52 on a three-pointer by sophomore guard Janaya Feaster (Akron/Archbishop Hoban) at 22 second. The Purple Raiders would come no closer than 12 points on two occasions with the last coming at 59-47 on a layup by sophomore guard Katie Reed at the 5:28 mark.
 
The Yellow Jackets will play their final game of 2013 when they travel to Waynesburg, Pennsylvania to face Waynesburg University on Saturday, December 21 at 3:00 p.m.  BW will not play again until January 4 when it travels to Westerville for an OAC game at Otterbein University at 3:00 p.m.   The next home game for the Jackets is on Saturday, January 11 when the team welcomes Marietta College to the Ursprung Gymnasium for an OAC game at 3 p.m.
