BEREA, Ohio -- The Baldwin Wallace
University men’s and women’s basketball teams have both
been selected by the Ohio Athletic Conference coaches to win
conference titles this winter.
The men's team, 19-6 a year ago, received eight first place
votes and had 79 points. Wilmington College was picked second and
received the other two first place votes. Rounding out the
top five were Mount Union, Capital and Marrieta.
The men return 14 lettermen and four starters and will be
led by senior three-time All-OAC forward Kyle
Payne (Brunswick) and senior two-time All-OAC guard
Kevin Krakowiak (Valley City/Holy
Name).
The men open play on Tuesday, November 19 when they host
Cleveland cross-town rival Case Western Reserve University in the
nightcap of a women’s and men’s doubleheader in the
Ursprung Gymnasium at 8 p.m. The BW and Case women open play
that night at 6 p.m.
The women's squad, 16-9 last season, received five first
place votes and 77 points. Ohio Northern University was picked
second and received the other five first place votes.
Rounding out the top five were Capital, Mount Union and John
Carroll.
The women return 12 lettermen and two starters and will be
led by senior two-time All-OAC guard Jessica Lairson (Louisville) and junior
Academic All-OAC guard Audrey Smolik (Strongsville).
The women open play on Friday, November 15 in the first
round of the Chuck Resler Invitational hosted by
the University of Rochester (N.Y.) when they play
No.10-ranked Tufts (Mass.) University at 1 p.m.
