BW Men’s Basketball Team Wins at Wilmington, 65-61

WILMINGTON, Ohio – Senior two-time All-Ohio Athletic Conference guard Kevin Krakowiak (Valley City/ Holy Name) scored 29 points as the Baldwin Wallace University men's basketball team won at Ohio Athletic Conference rival Wilmington College, 65-61, in the Fred Razik Arena.
 
BW (11-10 overall, 7-7 OAC) also received seven points from senior three-time All-OAC forward Kyle Payne (Brunswick). Payne now has 1,482 career points and stands 12th on the Yellow Jacket all-time scoring list. Krakowiak now has 1,282 career points and stands 16th all-time.
 
Wilmington (13-7 overall, 10-4 OAC) was led by senior guard R.J. Leppert's 17 points.
 
In the first half, BW jumped out to a 1-0 lead at 18:49 when junior forward Matt Dennis (Spring Hills, Fla./ Nature Coast Technical) made one of two foul shots. The Yellow Jackets led 7-5 at 14:11 when Krakowiak made a three-pointer.
 
Wilmington came back with an 8-0 run and led 13-7 at 10:22 when junior backup center Ben Vonderhaar made one of two foul shots. The lead grew to eight points on two separate occasions with the last at 20-12 when Johnson made a trey.
 
BW responded with a 9-0 run to take a 21-20 lead at 3:06 when Krakowiak made his third triple of the half. On Wednesday night in a 102-98 loss to first place the University of Mount Union, he made a school-record nine three-pointers and had a career-best 36 points. The Quakers ended the half on a 5-1 run to lead 25-22 at halftime.
 
In the second half, BW regained the lead at 28-27 at 18:23 when Krakowiak canned a jumper. The Quakers responded with a 13-6 run to lead 40-34 at 13:07 when Vonderhaar made two foul shots.  BW countered with a 13-3 run to lead 47-43 at 8:33 when Crowe made a layup.
 
There were two lead changes and three ties before the Yellow Jackets took control. The game was last tied at 58-58 with 2:09 left when Leppert made a layup. BW responded by making seven of eight foul shots in the final 1:50 to build its largest lead at 65-59 with eight seconds left when Dennis made one of two charity tosses.
 
BW is back in action on Wednesday, February 12 when they host OAC and Cleveland cross-town rival John Carroll University on "Swarm the Gym" Night in the Rudolph Ursprung Gymnasium in the Lou Higgins Center at 7:30 p.m.
 
The Yellow Jackets end their regular season home schedule on Saturday, Feb. 15 when they host OAC-rival Marietta College on Parents' & Seniors; Day at 3:00 p.m.
