BW Women Beat Marietta For Fifth Straight Win

MARIETTA, Ohio – Sophomore guard Alissa Munro (Mansfield/Lexington) scored a game-high 17 points and made four of seven three-pointers as the Baldwin Wallace University women's basketball team defeated Ohio Athletic Conference rival Marietta College, 82-59, in the Ban Johnson Arena. The  win was BW"s fifth straight this season and ninth straight versus the Pioneers.
 
BW is now 18-5 overall and 13-3 in the OAC and is in a first place tie with John Carroll University in the OAC standings. Marietta is 10-13 overall and 4-12 in the OAC.
 
In addition to Munro for BW, junior forward Shari Mangas (Leipsic) had 13 points, junior All-OAC and Academic All-OAC forward Audrey Smolik (Strongsville) had 12 had senior forward Lexi Rohrbach (Tiffin/ Columbian) had 11 points. With her seven points today, senior three-time All-OAC forward Jessica Lairson (Louisville) now has 1,063 career points and ranks eighth on the all-time scoring list.  With her eight rebounds, Rohrbach has 565 in her career and is eighth all-time. Marietta was led by senior guard Tori Dixon and junior guard Jessica Brogan with 10 points each.
 
In the first half, the Yellow Jackets jumped out to a 5-0 lead at 18:55 as Mangas made a three-pointer and Rohrbach madxe a layup. After Marietta closed to 8-6, BW scored 12 straight points to take an 18-6 advantage when freshman guard Sydney Clark (Parma/Lake Ridge Academy) made a layup at 13:29.
 
The BW lead grew to 17 points at 25-8 at 9:23 when Smolik made a jumper. A 5-0 run by the Pioneers cut BW's lead to 12 at 25-13 when freshman guard Emily Sabino made a three-pointer.
 
A 7-3 run gave BW a34-16 lead at 5:16 when Smolik canned a jumper. Munro led a 13-9 run with nine points and the Yellow Jackets led at halftime, 47-25.
 
In the second half, Marietta got as close as 19 points at 51-32 when freshman center Mackenzie Kiser made a layup. The largest Yellow Jacket lead was 29 points at 75-46 with 7:24 remaining when freshman guard Megan McKean (Jeromesville/Northwestern) scored on a three-point play.
 
BW is back in action on Wednesday, Feb. 19 when it hosts Heidelberg University in the Ursprung Gym at 7:30 p.m. BW remains home and hosts Muskingum University on Seniors' & Parents' Day on Saturday, Feb. 22 at 3:00 p.m.
