BW Women Beats Mt. Union, 74-53, in Alliance

ALLIANCE, Ohio – Senior two-time All-Ohio Athletic Conference forward Jessica Lairson (Louisville) scored 13 points as the Baldwin Wallace University women's basketball team beat OAC rival the University of Mount Union, 74-53, in the McPherson Academic & Athletic Complex.
 
BW is now 15-5 overall and 10-3 in the OAC and is tied for second place in the OAC standings. Mount Union is 10-10 overall and 4-9 in the OAC.
 
In addition to Lairson for BW, sophomore guard Alissa Munro (Mansfield/Lexington) scored 11 points and sophomore backup center Sam Hamar (Galion) had a careerr-high tying 10 points and eight rebounds,
With her 13 points, Lairson now has 1,038 career points and ranks ninth on the all-time scoring list.  With her three rebounds today, senior forward Lexi Rohrbach (Tiffin/Columbian) has 541 in her career and moved into 10th place on the all-time list. 
The Purple Raiders were led by junior guard Chandler Moore's game-high 18 points.
 
After there were four ties, BW gained a 14-8 lead at 10:55 with a 6-0 run that culminated when junior forward Shari Mangas (Leipsic) made a jump shot. Mount Union countered with a 9-2 run to take a 17-16 lead at 8:01 when freshman forward Robyn Brown made a three-pointer.
 
There were six lead changes and two ties before the Yellow Jackets grabbed a pair of four-point leads, including the last at 30-26 at 3:06 when sophomore guard Janaya Feaster (Akron/ Archbishop Hoban) made a layup. BW also led at halftime, 34-31.
 
In the second half, the Purple Raiders scored the first four points to take a 35-34 lead at 18:55 when Moore made a jump shot. BW came back to outscore Mount Union 12-4 to take a 46-39 lead at 13:58 when Munro made a layup, was fouled but missed the free throw to convert the three-point play.
 
After the Raiders cut the deficit to four points at 48-44 at 12:34 on a Moore layup, BW took over the game and outscored Mount Union 25-5 to take a commanding 73-49 advantage at 1:30 when sophomore guard Allyson Helleis (Rocky River) made a layup.
 
BW is back in action on Saturday, February 8 when BW hosts Wilmington College in the Rudolph Ursprung Gymnasium in the Lou Higgins Center at 3:00 p.m.
