BW Women Beat Wilmington, 77-59, in Berea

BEREA, Ohio – Senior forward Lexi Rohrbach (Tiffin/ Columbian) scored 18 points and grabbed nine rebounds as the Baldwin Wallace University women's basketball team beat Ohio Athletic Conference rival Wilmington College, 77-59, in the Rudolph Ursprung Gymnasium in the Lou Higgins Center. The win was BW"s third straight.

BW is now 16-5 overall and 11-3 in the OAC and is in second place in the OAC standings. Wilmington is 11-10 overall and 8-6 in the OAC.

In addition to Rohrbach for BW, sophomore guard Alissa Munro (Mansfield/ Lexington) and senior two-time All-OAC forward Jessica Lairson (Louisville) each had 11 points. With her 11 points, Lairson now has 1,049 career points and ranks eighth on the all-time scoring list.  With her nine rebounds today, Rohrbach has 551 in her career and is ninth all-time.  Wilmington was led by Makenzie Wippel with 11 points.

In the first half, BW grabbed an early 2-0 lead at 19:31 when Rohrbach grabbed an offensive rebound and scored. Wilmington countered with a 17-11 run to lead by four points for the third straight possession at 17-13 at 9:25 when sophomore forward Kristen Glick made a layup.

BW grabbed the lead back at 18-17 at 8:30 when freshman forward Clara Lemmon (Canton/ Louisville) made a steal and drove the length of the floor for a layup. The lead grew to 30-23 at 3:15 when Munro canned her third three-pointer of the half. The Jackets also led 30-25 at halftime.

The second half began the same as the first when Rohrbach scored the first six points to help BW build an 11-point lead at 36-25 at 18:38.  The lead grew to 18 points at 51-33 at 13:44 when Smolik made a three-pointer.

The closest Wilmington got after that point was 14 points at 58-44 at 9:21 when junior forward Spencer Robles canned a three-pointer. BW's lead grew as high as 21 points with 4:49 to play.

BW is back in action on Wednesday, February 12 when it travels to University Heights, Ohio to place first place and OAC and Cleveland cross-town rival John Carroll University in the Tony DeCarlo Varsity Center at 7:30 p.m.

The next home game is on Wednesday, Feb. 19 when BW hosts Heidelberg University in the Ursprung Gym at 7:30 p.m.
