BW Women’s Basketball Wins Third Straight to Close 2013

WAYNESBURG, Pa. – Senior center Lexi Rohrbach (Tiffin/Columbian) recorded her sixth career double-double to lead the Baldwin Wallace University women's basketball team  to its third straight win with a 74-62 victory against Waynesburg (Pa.) in the Rudy Marisa Fieldhouse.    This was the final game of 2013 for the Yellow Jackets

BW (8-2) was led by Rohrbach as she scored 14 points and grabbed a game-high tying 12 rebounds.   Junior All-Ohio Athletic Conference guard Audrey Smolik (Strongsville) tallied a game-high 18 points and freshman point guard Mackenzie Colombo (Strasburg) scored a career-best 11 points.

Waynesburg (3-6) was led by junior guard Hayden Giuliani with 16 points.  Junior guard Rebecca Kerr tallied 11 points and sophomore guard Lauren Blair contributed 10.  Freshman forward Courtney Sargent scored nine points and grabbed a game-high tying 12 rebounds.

In the first half, BW opened the game on a 6-0 run as Rohrbach scored all six points with the last coming on a layup at the 16:21 mark.  Waynesburg cut the lead down to two points on two occasions with the last coming at 9-7 on a pair of free throws by Kerr with 13:55 remaining. 

BW would respond with a 14-0 run to take a 23-7 lead on a layup by Rohrbach at the 7:04 mark. Waynesburg outscored the Brown and Gold 16-14 over the remainder of the half but trailed BW 37-23 at the intermission.

Waynesburg opened the second half on an 21-9 run to cut the lead down to just four points at 46-42 on a three-pointer by senior guard/forward Elaine Hasek at the 11:35 mark.  Waynesburg continued its climb back and cut the lead down to two points at 50-48 on a free throw by Blair with nine minutes to play.

BW responded with a 10-0 run to push the lead back to 12 points at 60-48 when sophomore guard Alissa Munro (Mansfield/Lexington) buried a triple at the 4:48 mark.  Smolik accounted for seven of the 10 points on the run.

BW and Waynesburg would each score 14-points over the remainder of the contest but BW came out top with the 74-62 win.

BW is back in action on Saturday, January 4 when it travels to Westerville for an Ohio Athletic Conference game at Otterbein University at 3:00 p.m.   The next home game for BW is on Saturday, January 11 when the team welcomes Marietta College to the Ursprung Gymnasium for an OAC game at 3 p.m.
