Softball Cages Thiel (Pa.) in Doubleheader Sweep

BEREA, Ohio – The Baldwin Wallace University softball team swept its third straight doubleheader and avenged a 2018 loss as it took two games from Thiel (Pa.) College in just the second home doubleheader of the season on the BW Softball Field at the Roehm Athletic Complex.

BW (18-2), who has now won six straight games and 15 of the last 16, won the opener by a final score of 2-1 and took the night cap by a score of 9-1 in five innings.

In game one, the Yellow Jackets scored two runs on seven hits as they plated its two runs on the third home run of the season for senior All-Ohio Athletic Conference and Academic All-OAC right fielder Alexis Boledovic (Brook Park/Berea-Midpark).  The Tomcats scored one run on 10 hits as they pushed their lone across the plate in the fourth.

The BW offense was led by Boledovic as she went 2-for-3 with the homer, two runs batted-in (RBIs) and one run scored.  Five other Yellow Jacket hitters recorded a base knock while senior left fielder Abbie Thompson (Madison) scored the game's other run after her bunt single.

In the circle, freshman right hander Nikki Camarati (Brunswick/Holy Name), who is this week's OAC Pitcher of the Week, won her ninth straight game (10-1) and remained undefeated against Division III opponents as she allowed one on 10 hits with seven strikeouts and four walks.

In game two, BW scored nine runs on six hits as it erupted for all nine runs in the bottom of the second on two doubles, a triple and a homerun.  Thiel scored one runs on four hits as it pushed its lone across the plate in the fourth.

The Yellow Jacket offense was led by freshman designated player Ashley Matousek (Sagamore Hills/Akron Archbishop Hoban) as she went 2-for-2 with a double, a three-run homerun, two runs scored and three RBIs all in the second inning.    Junior Academic All-OAC second baseman Alex Kozich (Avon), Boledovic and freshman third baseman Kami Helm (Uniontown/Green) provided three of the other four hits as all had an extra base knock.  Kozich had a double and three RBIs, Boledovic smacked a triple and two RBIs and Helm tallied a double and one RBI.

In the circle, sophomore All-OAC left hander Abby Cosart (Lima/Bath) won her second straight game and improved to 6-1 as she allowed one run on four hits with two strike outs and two walks

BW closes out its two-game homestand on Saturday, March 30 when it hosts an OAC doubleheader against the University of Mount Union at 1 p.m.
