#24 Softball Splits with Hiram in Non-Conference Finale

HIRAM, Ohio – The 24th-nationally ranked Baldwin Wallace University softball team split a pair of games against Hiram College in its non-conference final on the Myrtis E. Herndon Field. 

BW (26-6) and Hiram (8-17-1) were originally scheduled to play on March 16 but the games were postponed due to inclement weather and field conditions

The Yellow Jackets won the opener by a final score of 8-1.  The Terriers won the nightcap by a final score of 3-0

In game one, BW scored eight runs on 13 hits as it plated two runs in the first, one in the third and four in the fourth and one in the sixth.  The Terriers scored one run on three hits as they pushed their lone across the plate in the sixth. 

The Yellow Jacket offense was led by junior center fielder Macy Leach (Westerville/Central) as she went 2-for-2 with a triple, run scored and three runs batted-in (RBIs).  Senior left fielder Abbie Thompson (Madison) was 2-for-2 with a run scored.  Freshman designated player/first baseman Ashley Matousek (Sagamore Hills/Akron Archbishop Hoban) went 2-for-4 with 2 RBIs.  Senior catcher Sami Minor (North Royalton) 2-for-4. Five other BW players had a base knock highlighted by the first collegiate triple from senior second baseman Krista Jennings (Luckey/Eastwood). 

In the circle, freshman right hander Nikki Camarati (Brunswick/Holy Name), who is this week's Ohio Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Week for the third time this season, improved to 16-2 as she allowed one run on three hits with eight strikeouts and six walks.

In game two, BW was held scoreless for just the second time this season on five hits.  Hiram scored three runs on 11 hits as it pushed all three of its runs in the bottom of the sixth.

The Yellow Jacket offense was led by sophomore first baseman Mackenzie Milligan (Cleveland/St. Joseph Academy) as she went 2-for-3.  Three other Yellow Jacket hitters got a base knock

In the circle, sophomore All-Ohio Athletic Conference left hander Abby Cosart (Lima/Bath) took the loss as she allowed three runs on 11 hits with three strikeouts and one walk

BW closes out its six-game road trip on Saturday, April 13 when it travels to New Concord for an OAC doubleheader against Muskingum University at 1 p.m. The Yellow Jackets return home on Tuesday, April 16 for an OAC doubleheader against Heidelberg University at 3 p.m.
