#24 Softball Sets School Record for Wins in a Season, Sweeps OAC Doubleheader Over Heidelberg

BEREA, Ohio – The Baldwin Wallace University softball team set the school-record for wins in a season as it swept an Ohio Athletic Conference doubleheader over Heidelberg university on the BW Softball Field at the Roehm Athletic Complex.

BW (29-7, 10-4 OAC), who won 28 games during the 1992 and 2011 seasons (28-11), won the opener by a final score of 9-3 and took the finale by a score of 3-0.

In game one, the Yellow Jackets scored nine runs on 13 hits as they plated one run in the first, five in the second, two in the third and one in the sixth.  Heidelberg (12-16, 5-9 OAC) scored three runs on seven hits as it pushed two runs across the plate in the fifth and one in the seventh.

The BW offense was led by sophomore first baseman Mackenzie Milligan (Cleveland/St. Joseph Academy) as she went 3-for-3 with two runs batted-in.  Senior All-OAC shortstop Erica English (North Olmsted) was 2-for-3 with two RBIs. Senior left fielder Abbie Thompson (Madison) went 2-for-3 with two runs scored.  Junior center fielder Macy Leach (Westerville/Central) was 2-for-4 with two runs scored, an RBI and a stolen base.  Four other Yellow Jacket hitters tallied a base knock highlighted by junior Academic All-OAC second baseman Alex Kozich (Avon) as she had two RBIs.

In the circle, freshman right hander Nikki Camarati (Brunswick/Holy Name) did not allow a hit, run or walk with seven strikeouts in three innings pitched to pick up the victory.  Sophomore All-OAC left hander Abby Cosart (Lima/Bath) earned her second save of the season as she allowed three runs on seven hits with one strikeout.

In game two, BW scored three runs on seven hits as it plated two runs in the second and one in the sixth on the solo blast from senior catcher Sami Minor (North Royalton).  The Student Princes were held scoreless for the fifth time this season on just three hits.

The BW offense was led by Minor as she went 2-for-3 with a double, homerun, two runs scored and two RBIs.   Thompson was 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI.  Three other Yellow Jacket hitters had a base hit.

In the circle, Camarati picked up her second of the win of the day and improved to 18-3 on the season as she allowed no runs on three hits with 10 strikeouts and one walk.  Camarati now leads the OAC and is second in Division III in wins with 18, leads the league and tied for fourth in the nation in strikeouts with 153 and is tied for fifth in the nation with six shutouts.

BW closes out the home portion of its schedule on Friday, April 19 when it hosts an OAC and Seniors' Day doubleheader against Capital University at 1 p.m.   The Yellow Jackets end the regular season on Saturday, April 27 when it travels to Westerville for an OAC doubleheader against Otterbein University at 1 p.m.
