Softball Falls to Ohio Northern on Final Day of OAC Tournament

NEW CONCORD, Ohio – The third-seeded Baldwin Wallace University softball team fell to second-seeded Ohio Northern University in an Ohio Athletic Conference Tournament elimination game at the Donna Newberry Field on the campus of Muskingum University.

Ohio Northern (23-18), who advances to take on fourth-seeded Otterbein University for the OAC Tournament Championship, defeated BW (33-10) by a final score of 4-2.   The game originally began on Saturday afternoon but was suspended due to weather in the fourth inning. 

Against Ohio Northern, the Yellow Jackets scored two runs on nine hits as they plated both of their runs in the second inning. The Polar Bears scored four runs on six hits as they pushed one run across the plate in the first and three in the fifth.

The BW offense was led by senior All-OAC shortstop Erica English (North Olmsted), who was named to the all-tournament team, as she went 2-for-3 with a run scored.  Senior right fielder Alexis Boledovic (Brook Park/Berea-Midpark), who was named to the all-tournament team, was 2-for-4 with a run batted-in (RBI). Five other Yellow Jacket hitters had a base knock led by senior left fielder Abbie Thompson (Madison) as he had a double and an RBI. 

In the circle, sophomore All-OAC left hander Abby Cosart (Lima/Bath) took the loss and fell to 11-5 as she allowed four runs (one earned) on five hits with one strikeout and six walks in 5.2 innings.  Freshman righty Nikki Camarati (Brunswick/Holy Name) pitched the final 1.1 innings and did not allow runs on just one hit with three strikeouts and no walks.
