No. 21 BW Men’s Soccer Team Ties Westminster (Pa.), 1-1

BEREA, OHIO -- The 21st-ranked (National Soccer Coaches Association of America poll) Baldwin Wallace University men's soccer team tied visiting Westminster (Pa.) College, 1-1 in double overtime, today (Saturday, September 22, 2012) in a non-league match and nightcap of a women's and men's doubleheader versus the Titans on the Tressel Field pitch at The George Finnie Stadium.

With its tie, BW, who entered this week ranked third in the NCAA Division III Great Lakes Region, is 5-2-1 overall.  With its tie, Westminster also is 5-2-1 overall.

In the first half, BW outshot Westminster, 7-3, but neither team could find the back of the net.

In the second half, BW finally broke through at the 55:08 mark when senior CAPITAL ONE Academic All-American forward Pat Brennan (Akron/ Walsh Jesuit) scored via an assist from sophomore forward Ben Deighton (Richfield/ Revere). The goal was Brennan's team-leading fifth of the season and Deighton's assist tied him for the team lead with three.

Westminster came back to tie the match at the 67:37 mark when freshman forward Stephen McDaniel scored his third goal of the season via an assist from freshman forward Marcus Gurgiolo.

Yellow Jacket senior goalkeeper Ryan Hulings (Centerville) faced 10 Titan shots, including four on-goal, allowed one goal and made three saves in 110 minutes of action. Westminster senior netminder Adam Kephart faced 24 BW shots, including nine on-goal, allowed one goal and made eight saves in 110 minutes.
 
In the game, BW outshot the Titans, 24-10, and won the corner kick battle, 9-3.
 
The Yellow Jacket men are back in action on Wednesday, Sept. 26 when they travel to Cincinnati to play the College of Mount St. Joseph at 7:00 p.m. and then open 2012 Ohio Athletic Conference play on Saturday, Sept. 29 in Westerville and against Otterbein University in the nightcap of a women's and men's doubleheader at 3:00 p.m.

On Tuesday, October 9, the Yellow Jacket men's and women's soccer teams will host Ohio Athletic Conference foe Heidelberg University in a doubleheader that will be televised by SportsTime Ohio (STO).  This is the fifth straight year that BW has televised a soccer doubleheader and will put a 7-1 combined record on the line, including a 4-0 mark by the women.
