BEREA, OHIO — Baldwin Wallace University men's soccer junior midfielder Judson Sprandel (Akron/ Green) has been named as a first-team CAPITAL ONE Academic All-District 7 selection. He now qualifies for the national CAPITAL ONE Academic All-America ballot.

Sprandel, who majors in biology and pre-med and hopes to attend medical school following graduation from BW, carries an outstanding 3.94 grade point average and is a member of the Dean's List.  As a sophomore in 2011-12, he was named as a first-team CAPITAL ONE Academic All-District 7 student-athlete and as an honorable mention Academic All-Ohio Athletic Conference player. He also was honored at the Student-Athlete & Faculty Recognition Luncheon for having the Highest Grade Point Average on the men's soccer team and as a Jacket Scholar.

As a freshman in 2010-2011, Sprandel competed in his first season of soccer and earned his first varsity letter as a midfielder.  He started all 22 games, took 18 total shots, including nine on-goal, and recorded one assist. BW finished 12-6-4 overall.

As a sophomore, Sprandel earned his second varsity letter. Despite battling injuries that caused him to miss seven matches, he started 15 matches, took 12 total shots, including four on-goal, but did not score. He helped BW compile a school-record 16 victories and a 16-6 record and earn an At-Large berth to the 2011 NCAA Division III National Tournament.

This year, Sprandel earned his third varsity letter as a member of the defense despite battling nagging injuries for the second straight season. He started 10 of 17 matches, took five total shots, including one on-goal, and did not score. BW finished 7-6-4 overall.

In addition to playing soccer, Sprandel is a member of the Pre-Med Club and the BW Bio League.

"Judson is an outstanding student and soccer player," said veteran Yellow Jacket Head Coach Reid Ayers. "He has played the past two seasons with a number of injuries. When he is healthy, Judson is one of the top players in the OAC.

"He is a great role model for our younger student-athletes," continued Ayers, who also was a scholar-athlete as a player at Hiram College back in his playing days. "We are looking forward to having a healthy Judson Sprandel back next fall."
