Men's Soccer Wins First OAC Game with Defeat of Muskingum

BEREA, OHIO -- The Baldwin Wallace University men's soccer team defeated Muskingum University, 4-0, tonight (Tuesday, October 2, 2012) in an Ohio Athletic Conference game on the Tressel Field inside the George Finnie Stadium.  This was the first home OAC match on the season.

With the win, the Yellow Jackets improve to 6-2-2 overall and 1-0-1 in the OAC.  With the loss, the Fighting Muskies fall to 3-6-3 overall and 0-2 in the OAC.

BW got all of the scoring in the first half.   The Yellow Jackets opened the scoring at 1-0 when sophomore forward Cody Lyon's(Brunswick) header went off the cross bar and bounced right back to senior defender Thomas Kramer (Columbus/Worthington Kilbourne) and he headed it in for his first goal of the season at the 21:23 mark.  BW extended its lead to 3-0 when senior CAPITAL ONE All-American midfielder Pat Brenan (Akron/Walsh Jesuit) scored his team-leading seventh and eighth goals just minutes apart at 28:39 and 32:02 respectively.  The Yellow Jackets pushed their lead to 4-0 when sophomore defender Vince Milner (Mayfield) took the cross from junior forward Andrew Preis (Mentor) and buried it in to upper left corner at the 38:08 mark.  The goal was the second of the season for Milner and it was the first assist on the season for Preis.

In net for BW, senior goalkeeper Ryan Hulings (Centerville) faced six Muskie shots, including two on-goal.  Hulings did not allow a goal and made two saves in 67:28 minutes of action. Senior goalie Tyler Beaton (Bemus Point, N.Y./Maple Grove) came on in the second half and faced two Muskingum shots, including one on-goal.  Beaton allowed no goals and made one save in 22:32 minutes of action.  Muskie goaltender Hunter Huffman faced 15 Yellow Jacket shots, including nine on-goal.  He allowed four goals and made five saves in 90 minutes.
 
In the game, BW outshot Muskingum, 15-8, and but lost the corner kick battle, 5-2.

The Yellow Jackets remain at home on Saturday, October 6 when they hosts the Polar Bears of Ohio Northern University in the second game of a women's and men's OAC soccer doubleheader at 7:00 p.m. The women's game will kickoff at 4:30 p.m.  Then on Tuesday, October 9, the men will host Heidelberg University in the second game of a women's and men's OAC and SportsTime Ohio doubleheader at 6:30 p.m.   The women's game will start at 4:30 p.m.
