Men’s Soccer Team Falls at Wilmington, 3-1

WILMINGTON, OHIO -- The Baldwin Wallace University men's soccer team was defeated by host Wilmington College, 3-1, tonight (Saturday, October 13, 2012) in an Ohio Athletic Conference match at Charles Gilhart Field.

With its loss, BW falls to 6-5-2 overall and 1-3-1 in the OAC.  With its win, Wilmington is now 8-4-1 overall and 3-0-1 in the OAC.

In the first half, the Quakers opened the scoring at 1-0, when junior defender Henrik Hornnaess scored on a free kick outside the box, at 15:57. The score remained that way at the intermission.

In the second half, Wilmington made it a 2-0 advantage at the 56:36 mark when sophomore midfielder Dan Wicks scored an unassisted goal. The Quakers then extended its lead to 3-0, when sophomore midfielder Martin Holmquist scored on a header off an assist from Hornnaess at the 65:38 mark.

The Yellow Jackets answered and scored the match's final goal at the 85:12 mark when freshman forward Zach Smith (Parma/Normandy) scored his first career goal off a pass from senior midfielder Emerson Saum (Toledo/ Ottawa Hills) for his first career assist.

In net for the Yellow Jackets, senior goalkeeper Ryan Hulings (Centerville) faced 14 Quaker shots, including six on-goal, allowed three goals and made three saves in 90:00 minutes of action. Wilmington goaltender Antonio Trujillo faced seven Yellow Jacket shots, including two on-goal, allowed one goal and made one save in 90:00 minutes of action.

In the match, the Quakers outshot BW, 14-7 and won the corner kick battle, 5-4.

The Yellow Jackets return to action on Tuesday, October 16 when they host OAC and cross-town rival John Carroll University for an OAC match on the Tressel Field turf in The George Finnie Stadium at 7:00 p.m.
