Men’s Soccer Team Loses to No.25-Ranked ONU

BEREA, OHIO -- The Baldwin Wallace University men's soccer team lost to No.25-ranked Ohio Northern University, 1-0, tonight in an Ohio Athletic Conference game on the Tressel Field turf inside The George Finnie Stadium. The Yellow Jacket men entered the match ranked seventh in the NSCAA (National Soccer Coaches Association of America) Great Lakes Region rankings and the visiting Polar Bears were fourth.
With their loss, the Yellow Jackets drop to 6-3-2 overall and 1-1-1 in the OAC.  With its win, the
Polar Bears improve to 12-2 overall and 3-0 in the OAC.
In the first half, both teams fought hard to end the half, 0-0. ONU outshot BW 10 to 3 and also won the corner kick battle 6-0.
In the second half, Michael Grossnickle opened up the games scoring with an unassisted goal at the 71:30 mark making the score 1-0.
In net for BW, senior goalkeeper Ryan Hulings (Centerville) faced 20 Polar Bear shots, including six on-goal, allowed one goals and made five saves in 90 minutes.  ONU netminder Mac Church faced eight BW shots, including zero on-goal, allowed zero goals and made zero saves in 90 minutes.
In the game, ONU outshot BW, 20-8, and lost the corner kick battle, 9-2.
The Yellow Jackets remain at home and host OAC-rival Heidelberg University on Tuesday, October 9, in the second game of a women's and men's SportsTime Ohio doubleheader at 6:30 p.m.   The women's game will start at 4:30 p.m.
