Men's Soccer Ties Otterbein in OAC Opener

WESTERVILLE, OHIO -- The Baldwin Wallace University men's soccer team tied Otterbein University, 2-2, in double overtime today (Saturday, September 29, 2012) in the Ohio Athletic Conference opener for both teams at Clements Field. This was the second game of a women's and men's OAC doubleheader as the BW women fell the Otterbein women 2-0.

With their tie, the Yellow Jackets, who are ranked sixth in the Great Lakes Region, are now 5-2-2 overall and 0-0-1 in the OAC.  With its tie, the Cardinals are now 4-4-1 overall and 0-0-1 in the OAC.

In the first half, the Yellow Jackets opened the scoring at 1-0 when the Cardinals put the ball into their own net for an own goal at the 40:53 mark.

In the second half, the Cardinals tied the game up 1-1 when they were awarded a penalty kick, which was scored by Dustin Kiaski at the 48:43 mark. The Yellow Jackets would answer immediately and retake the lead on a header by sophomore defender Bill Gamble (Brunswick) on a rebound shot off the crossbar at the 50:20 mark

Otterbein would come back to tie up the match at 2-2 when Aaric Milligan scored into the right corner of the net off an assist from Kiaski at the 75:16 mark.

Yellow Jacket senior goalkeeper Ryan Hulings (Centerville) faced nine Cardinal shots allowing two goals and made two saves in 110 minutes of action. Otterbein goalkeeper Kyle Ripma faced 21 BW shots allowing two goals and made six saves in 110 minutes.
 
In the game, BW outshot the Cardinals, 20-9, and won the corner kick battle, 8-3.
 
The Yellow Jackets return home to friendly confines of the Tressel Field inside the George Finnie Stadium on Tuesday, October 2 when they host the Fighting Muskies of Muskingum in an OAC match at 7:00 p.m.

On Tuesday, October 9, the Yellow Jacket men's and women's soccer teams will host Ohio Athletic Conference foe Heidelberg University in a doubleheader that will be televised by SportsTime Ohio (STO).  This is the fifth straight year that BW has televised a soccer doubleheader and will put a 7-1 combined record on the line, including a 4-0 mark by the women.
