No. 21 Men’s Soccer Team Falls to Allegheny (Pa.)

MEADVILLE, PENNSYLANIA -- The 21st-ranked (National Soccer Coaches Association of America poll) Baldwin Wallace University men's soccer team falls to host Allegheny College, 3-1, in a non-league match at Frank B. Fuhrer Field.

With its loss, BW, who is also ranked third in the Great Lakes Region, snaps its five game-winning streak and now is 5-2 overall.  Allegheny, ranked seventh in the region, is now 7-1 overall.

In the first half, the Gators started off the scoring at the 2:41 mark when Chris Brennan scored his first goal of the season off  the assist from Conor Azevedo making the score, 1-0. The Gators added to their lead, 2-0, when David DelGreco scored off an assist from Andrew Zimmer at 27:56.  The Gators ended first half scoring at the 37:43 mark and pushed the lead to 3-0, on a Alex Marks goal.

In the second half, Sophomore midfielder Michael Brennan (Akron/ Walsh Jesuit) opened the second half scoring for the Yellow Jackets at the 55:14 mark with a goal off an assist from Zach Smith (Parma/ Normandy) making the score 3-1 . This was Brennan's third goal and Smith's first assist of the season.

Yellow Jacket senior goalkeeper Tyler Beaton (Bemus Point, N.Y./ Maple Grove) faced 15 Gator shots, including 10 on goal, allowed three goals and made seven saves in 90 minutes of action. Allegheny netminder John Lichina faced 13 BW shots, including eight on-goal, allowed one goal and made seven saves in 90 minutes.

In the game, the Gators outshot the Yellow Jackets, 15-13, and won the corner kick battle, 11-4.

The team next plays this Saturday, September 22 when it hosts Westminster (Pa.) College in the second game of a women's and men's non-conference doubleheader at 3:00 p.m. The women kickoff at 1:00 p.m.

On Tuesday, October 9, the Yellow Jacket men's and women's soccer teams will host Ohio Athletic Conference foe Heidelberg University in a doubleheader that will be televised by SportsTime Ohio (STO).  This is the fifth straight year that BW has televised a soccer doubleheader and will put a 7-1 combined record on the line, including a 4-0 mark by the women.
