Baseball Battles Back to Upset No. 7 Wooster

WOOSTER, Ohio – After falling behind 4-0, the Baldwin Wallace University baseball team battled back to seal a 7-5 non-conference victory over the No. 7 Nationally Ranked College of Wooster, at Art Murray Field.

BW (17-8), who has won five straight and eight of their last ten, plated seven runs off 12 hits as two came across in the fourth, three in the eighth, and two more in the ninth. This victory also marks the second time the Yellow Jackets have snapped a nine-game winning streak for Scots.

The Yellow Jacket offense was led by senior designated hitter Jacob Bonner (Akron/Archbishop Hoban) as he went 2-for-4, with a two-run single to left center in the fourth, and a fielder's choice run batted-in (RBI) in the ninth as well. Senior first baseman Philip Wells (Buffalo, N.Y./Saint Josephs Collegiate) went 2-of-4 at the dish, including an RBI single in the eighth, and also scored a run. Junior Adademic All-Ohio Athletic Conference center fielder Brandon Dim (Solon) also had two hits, a stolen base, and a run scored. Freshman catcher JT Mazula (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Hills) had the biggest hit of the game in the eighth when he gave the Yellow Jackets the lead with his single down the left field line, scoring two. Sophomore shortstop Alex Ludwick (Brunswick/Padua Franciscan) went 2-for-5 with an RBI and run scored. Senior left fielder Asa Adams (Sarver, Pa./Knoch) tallied one hit and two runs scored while senior two-time Academic All-OAC right fielder Reese Albright (Parma/North Royalton) had one hit, with a run scored and a stolen base.

On the mound for BW was junior right handed-pitcher Max Adams (Massillon/Washington), as he went 1.2 innings and allowed four runs off five hits with one strikeout. Freshman righty Drew Wilson (Sagamore Hills/Cuyahoga Valley Christian Academy) dealt 4.1 innings of no-run baseball where he struck out six and only allowed three hits. Junior Academic All-OAC left handed-pitcher Michael Hubert (Cincinnati/Oak Hills) entered in the seventh and pitched one inning, allowing one run (unearned) off zero hits. Junior lefty Spencer Berg (New Albany) was next in line and he managed an out with a strikeout and allowed one hit. Freshman righty Garrett Miller (McMurray) earned his second win after 1.2 innings of work where he allowed zero runs off one hit and one punchout.

The Yellow Jackets will hit the diamond next on Saturday, April 13 for an OAC doubleheader at home against Muskingum University at 1 and 4 p.m. BW will then embark on a six-game road trip that begins with an OAC doubleheader at Heidelberg University on Tuesday, April 16. Game one is slated for 1 p.m and game two at 4 p.m.
