Baseball Falls to Misericordia in Final Inning

PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. – The Baldwin Wallace University baseball team fell to the No. 21 Nationally-ranked Misericordia (Pa.) University by a score of 5-4 at the North Charlotte Regional Park.

BW (3-4) plated a run in the third, one in the seventh, a tying single from senior catcher Asa Adams (Sarver, Pa./Knoch) in the eighth, and one in the ninth.

The Yellow Jackets were led by Adams as he scored two runs with a career-best three hits, and the crucial RBI that came in the eighth. Junior American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA)/Rawlings All-Mideast Region and All-OAC outfielder Dudley Taw (Sheffield Lake/Brookside) knocked in one run with his hit in the third. Senior first baseman Philip Wells (Buffalo, N.Y./Saint Joseph's Collegiate), junior infielder Jacob Bonner (Akron/Archbishop Hoban) and sophomore infielder Luke Razzante (Highland Heights/Mayfield) each had two hits for the game. Senior infielder Kyle Pennington (Wadsworth) marked a hit and an RBI in the seventh.

Making his first start of the season was sophomore pitcher Nick Smith (Mentor). His line included five innings of no run baseball, six hits and four strikeouts. Senior pitcher Griffin Watterson (Bay Village/Bay) entered to start the sixth and got two outs and allowed three runs off two hits. Junior Academic All-OAC left-handed-pitcher Michael Hubert (Cincinnati/Oak Hills) came in relief and went 3.1 innings and allowed two runs off four hits with four strikeouts and was given the loss.

BW will be back in action on Friday to play Moravian (Pa.) College at 1:30 p.m.
