Yellow Jackets Come Back to Beat Kean (NJ) in Final Game in Florida

PUNTA GORDA, Fla. – The Baldwin Wallace University baseball team scored three runs on four base hits in the seventh inning and came back to defeat Kean (N.J.) University in the final game of the Snowbird Classic at the South County Regional Park.  BW (4-5) plated three huge runs in the seventh off four hits and totaled seven hits overall.

The Yellow Jackets (4-5 overall) were led by senior first baseman Philip Wells (Buffalo, N.Y./ Saint Joseph's Collegiate) as he got two hits, including a double and scored one run. Senior two-time Academic All-Ohio Athletic Conference outfielder Reese Albright (Parma/ North Royalton) and sophomore infielder Luke Razzante (Highland Heights/ Mayfield) each recorded a base hit and a run batted in (RBI) in the key seventh inning. Sophomore infielder Alex Ludwick (Brunswick/ Padua Franciscan) also knocked in a run in the seventh with a sacrifice fly.

On the mound, senior American Baseball Coaches Association/Rawlings All-Mideast Region and All-OAC righthanded pitcher Danny Cody (Medina/ Brecksville-Broadview Hts.) pitched 5.1 innings, allowed four base hits and two runs (none earned) with seven strikeouts. Two of the punch-outs were in the bottom of the first with bases loaded. Junior lefthander Spencer Burg (New Albany) came in to relieve Cody in the sixth inning and got two outs, allowed zero runs off one hit and earned his first win on the season. Junior pitcher Racco DiLauro (Akron/ Springfield) entered in the seventh and went two innings with zero runs off two hits, including a strikeout, to gain a key "hold". Junior Academic All-OAC lefthander pitcher Michael Hubert (Cincinnati/ Oak Hills) closed out the Cougars in the ninth with a one-two-three inning with a strikeout to end the game and earn his first save this season.

BW returns to Berea on Sunday, March 10 and begin a three-game homestand at Fisher Field this Friday, March 15 with a game against Oberlin College at 12:00 p.m. On Saturday, March 16, the Yellow Jackets host Defiance College in a single game at 4:30 p.m., and BW closes out the homestand with a single game versus Alma (Mich.) College on Sunday, March 17 at 2:30 p.m.
