Baseball Wins Fifth Straight with Victory over Oberlin

OBERLIN, Ohio – With a six run fourth inning the Baldwin Wallace University baseball team came away with an 8-1 non-conference victory over Oberlin College at Dill Field.

BW (8-5), having won five straight games, plated eight runs off thirteen hits with two coming in the first and six in the fourth.

Senior catcher Asa Adams (Sarver, Pa./Knoch) led the Yellow Jackets with a career-tying three hits and one run-batted-in and two runs scored. Senior first baseman Philip Wells (Buffalo, N.Y./Saint Joseph's Collegiate) knocked in three RBI's, including two in the fourth, with his two hits and stole a base as well. Junior Academic All-Ohio Athletic Conference outfielder Lane Niemann (Willowbrook, Ill./Hinsdale South) recorded one hit, one RBI, and one run scored, all coming in the fourth inning. Junior infielder Jacob Bonner (Akron/Archbishop Hoban) tallied a hit and plated a run in the fourth, as well as senior second baseman Kyle Pennington (Wadsworth), while freshman catcher JT Mazula (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Hills) notched two hits for the game. Sophomore infielder Alex Ludwick (Brunswick/Padua Franciscan) recorded a single and a run scored.

Making his first start of the season was junior Academic All-OAC left-handed-pitcher Michael Hubert (Cincinnati/Oak Hills) and his line included two innings with one run, off two hits and two strikeouts. Junior right-handed pitcher Max Adams (Massillon/Washington) entered in relief and dealt two innings of no-run baseball and struck out one. Freshman utility player Drew Wilson (Sagamore Hills/Cuyahoga Valley Christian Academy) hung up a zero for his two innings of work, including three strikeouts, and went one-for-one at the plate with a double. Freshman right-handed-pitcher Garret McLeod (Medina) entered in the seventh and struck out two in his pair of innings before senior left-handed-pitcher Jack Raines (Akron/Archbishop Hoban) closed the door on the Yeomen with a scoreless ninth.

BW will host Marietta College on Saturday, March 23 for a double-header to open OAC play with game one slated for 1 p.m and game two at 4p.m.
