Baseball Drops Two Against La Roche (Pa.)

PITTSBURGH, Pa. - In two seven-inning affairs, the Baldwin Wallace University baseball team dropped a non-conference doubleheader, 10-9 and 2-0 to La Roche (Pa.) College.

In game one, BW (25-13) scored nine runs off 12 hits as two were plated in the first, four in the second, one in the fourth, and two in the seventh. La Roche (27-13) scored 10 runs off 13 hits.

The offense was led by senior catcher Asa Adams (Sarver, Pa./Knoch) as he 3-for-4 with a double, a career-high three runs-batted in (RBI), scored a career-high three runs and stole a base. Senior first baseman Philip Wells (Buffalo, N.Y/Saint Joseph's Collegiate) went 2-of-4 at the dish and drove in two runs. Senior second baseman Kyle Pennington (Wadsworth) went 2-for-2 with an RBI single in the second and scored a run. Junior left fielder Jacob Bonner (Akron/Archbishop Hoban) had one hit with two RBI. Sophomore third baseman Tony LoParo (Avon/Elyria Catholic) went 2-for-4 with a run scored while senior two-time Academic All-Ohio Athletic Conference right fielder Reese Albright (Parma/North Royalton) and freshman designated hitter Drew Wilson (Sagamore Hills/Cuyahoga Valley Christian Academy) each recorded one hit and a run scored. Junior Academic All-OAC centerfielder Brandon Dim (Solon) and sophomore shortstop Alex Ludwick (Brunswick/Padua Franciscan) each scored a run.

On the mound was junior right-handed pitcher Spencer Aukerman (Medina) and he allowed four runs off four hits and marked one strikeout. Junior Academic All-OAC left-handed pitcher Michael Hubert (Cincinnati/Oak Hills) came in for relief and dealt 4.2 innings where he allowed four runs (three earned) off six hits and struck out four. Earning the loss was Wilson, as he finished the final 1.1 innings and allowed two runs off three hits and punched out two.

In game two the Yellow Jackets mustered two hits, with zero runs to show. La Roche plated two runs off five hits.

Sophomore third baseman Luke Razzante (Highland Heights/Mayfield) and Adams each tallied a hit, while Albright stole a base.

Freshman righty Garrett Miller (McMurray) got the nod in game two and dealt six innings, allowing two runs off five hits and struck out four, en route to his first loss.

BW is set to host the OAC tournament, starting Thursday May 9. Game one will showcase the three-seeded Ohio Northern University and two-seeded Heidelberg University at 12 p.m. The one-seeded Yellow Jackets will play in game two at 3:30 p.m, against four-seeded Otterbein University.
