Raines Career Day Leads Baseball to Victory over Oberlin

BEREA, Ohio – Senior left-handed-pitcher Jack Raines (Akron/Archbishop Hoban) led the Baldwin Wallace University baseball team to an 11-9 victory over Oberlin College on Fisher Field.

BW (5-5) plated 11 runs off 10 hits with one run coming in the first and third, three runs in the fifth, sixth, and seventh to secure its fifth victory on the season.

The Yellow Jackets offense was led by senior designated hitter Philip Wells (Buffalo, N.Y./Saint Joseph's Collegiate), as he tallied two hits and three runs-batted-in. Senior second baseman Kyle Pennington (Wadsworth) scored three runs and knocked in two runs with his two hits. Senior two-time Academic All-Ohio Athletic Conference right fielder Reese Albright (Parma/North Royalton) had two hits and two RBI's while senior catcher Asa Adams (Sarver, Pa./Knoch) scored two runs off his two hits.

Making his second start on the season was sophomore right-handed-pitcher Nick Smith (Mentor) and he went 2.2 innings, allowed one run(unearned) off two hits with four strikeouts. Raines entered in relief for Smith and notched a career-best 12 strikeouts and allowed two runs, both unearned, off three hits and earned his second win. Senior pitcher Griffin Watterson (Bay Village/Bay) entered in the ninth, got one out and allowed six runs off three hits and a strikeout. Junior Max Adams (Massillon/Washington) got the final two outs and received his first save on the campaign.

The Yellow Jackets will hit the diamond tomorrow at 4 p.m for a contest against Defiance College and will wrap up the weekend with a game against Alma (Mich.) College at 2 p.m on Sunday.
