Aukerman Fans Six, Baseball Sweeps the Weekend

BEREA, Ohio – Junior right-handed-pitcher Spencer Aukerman (Medina) led the Baldwin Wallace University baseball team to a 4-3 non-conference victory over Alma (Mich.) College with a career-high six strikeouts in the outing. 

BW (7-5) scored four runs off six hits as one run crossed in the fourth and six, before the tying and winning run were plated in the seventh.

The Yellow Jackets were led by junior infielder Jacob Bonner (Akron/Archbishop Hoban) as he had two hits, including an RBI double in the fourth. Senior second baseman Kyle Pennington (Wadsworth) notched two hits and scored the game winning run in the seventh. Senior two-time Academic All-Ohio Athletic Conference outfielder Reese Albright (Parma/North Royalton) recorded a hit and an RBI and senior first baseman Philip Wells (Buffalo, N.Y./Saint Joseph's Collegiate) scored once off one hit.

Aukerman pitched a career-tying 6 innings and only allowed one run off four hits and struck out six. Junior pitcher Racco DiLauro (Akron/Springfield) came in relief for Aukerman in the seventh and gave up two unearned runs off two hits and strikeout, while receiving his first win on the season. Junior left-handed-pitcherSpencer Burg (New Albany) received his first save after two innings of no run baseball and a strikeout.

BW will be on the diamond next on Tuesday, March 19 for a non-conference matchup with Oberlin College at 3 p.m. The Yellow Jackets will open conference play with a double-header at home against Marietta College on Saturday, March 23 with game one scheduled for 1 p.m and game two at 4 p.m.
