Baseball Falls to No. 7 Denison

GRANVILLE, Ohio – The Baldwin Wallace University baseball team dropped a single non-conference contest to the No. 7 Nationally Ranked Denison University, 9-7, on Big Red Field.

BW (23-11) scored seven runs off 13 hits as four were plated in the third, one in the fifth, sixth, and ninth. Denison (30-5) plated nine runs off 10 hits.

The Yellow Jacket offense was led by junior left fielder Jacob Bonner (Akron/Archbishop Hoban) as he went 3-for-5 at the plate. Senior first baseman Philip Wells (Buffalo, N.Y./Saint Joseph's Collegiate) went 2-of-5 with a double and an RBI single, and also scored a run. Sophomore shortstop Alex Ludwick (Brunswick/Padua Franciscan) drove in two runs with his single up the middle in the third. Junior Academic All-Ohio Athletic Conference center fielder Brandon Dim (Solon) had a 2-for-5 day with two runs scored. Senior catcher Asa Adams (Sarver, Pa./Knoch) recorded one hit, one RBI, and one run scored. Senior two-time Academic All-OAC right fielder Reese Albright (Parma/North Royalton) tallied one hit with a run scored, while senior second baseman Kyle Pennington (Wadsworth) drove in a run with his double in the sixth. Freshman pinch-hitter JT Mazula (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Hills) scored a run and marked one hit.

Junior right-handed pitcher Spencer Aukerman (Medina) made his eighth start of the season and went two-thirds of an inning and allowed four runs off three hits while striking out one. Freshman righty Garrett Miller (McMurray) entered in relief and dealt three innings where he allowed three runs off two hits and struck out four. Senior left-handed pitcher Jack Raines (Akron/Archbishop Hoban) was next out of the bullpen and the lefty pitched 2.1 innings and allowed two runs off four hits and struck out three. Freshman right-handed pitcher Drew Wilson (Sagamore Hills/Cuyahoga Christian Valley Academy) dealt the seventh and eighth and allowed zero runs off one hits and struck out one.

BW will hit the diamond next for Seniors' Day on Friday, May 3 against John Carroll University. Game one's first pitch is set for 1 p.m and game two at 4 p.m.
