Wells Smacks Two Homeruns, Baseball Edges Out Ohio Wesleyan

BEREA, Ohio – Senior first baseman Philip Wells (Buffalo, N.Y./ Saint Joseph's Collegiate) blasted a career-high two homeruns in the 5-4 non-conference victory over Ohio Wesleyan at Fisher Field. The win was BW's second straight and eighth in its last nine contests.

BW (11-6) established an early lead with two runs in the first when Wells hit his first of two two-run homers to right field, pushed across a run in the second, and two more insurance runs in the fifth when he hit his second two-run blast.

The Yellow Jackets were led by Wells as he drove in a career-tying four runs-batted-in, and scored twice. Senior utility-man Jacob Bonner (Akron/Archbishop Hoban) and sophomore third baseman Luke Razzante (Highland Heights/Mayfield) each tallied two hits. Sophomore shortstop Alex Ludwick (Brunswick/Padua Franciscan) recorded a base-knock and a run scored while freshman catcher JT Mazula (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Hills) and senior second baseman Kyle Pennington (Wadsworth) each scored a run.

Junior right-handed-pitcher Max Adams (Massillon/Washington) got his first start on the season and went a career-high five innings while allowing three runs off seven hits and struck out a career-high four hitters. Junior Academic All-Ohio Athletic Conference left-handed-pitcher Michael Hubert (Cincinnati/Oak Hills) entered in relief in the sixth and dealt two innings of no-run baseball while striking out four and got his second win on the season. Junior right-handed-pitcher Spencer Aukerman (Medina) was next in line for BW and notched two outs with one strikeout, while giving up an unearned run off one hit. Senior left-handed-pitcher Jack Raines (Akron/Archbishop Hoban) earned his first save on the year after 1.1 innings of work and two strikeouts.

BW will play the University of Mount Union on Saturday, March 30 for an OAC double-header on 23rd Street Field at 1 p.m and 4 p.m. The Yellow Jackets will then welcome Wabash (Ind.) College to Fisher Field on Sunday, March 31 for a single non-conference game at 12 p.m.
