BEREA, Ohio – In a matchup of the Ohio Athletic Conference co-regular season champions, the top-seeded Baldwin Wallace University baseball team fell 11-3 to second-seeded Heidelberg University in an elimination game of the 2019 OAC Tournament hosted at Fisher Field.

BW (25-15) scored three runs off 10 hits with a pair of runs coming in the second inning and the final tally of the afternoon coming in the bottom of the ninth. Heidelberg (29-12) plated 11 runs off of 17 hits, including a big five-run inning in the eighth.

Offensively, three Yellow Jackets recorded multiple hits in senior catcher Asa Adams (Sarver, Pa./Knoch), sophomore shortstop Alex Ludwick (Brunswick/Padua Franciscan) and sophomore third baseman Luke Razzante (Highland Heights/Mayfield). Junior Academic All-OAC center fielder Brandon Dim (Solon) had two runs batted-in (RBIs) with a single through the right side while senior second baseman Kyle Pennington (Wadsworth) added an RBI of his own. Ludwick, Razzante and junior left fielder Jacob Bonner (Akron/Archbishop Hoban) scored BW's three runs on the afternoon.

Getting the start in the elimination game was sophomore right-hander Nick Smith (Mentor), who is the reigning OAC Pitcher of the Week. Smith went six full innings, giving up four runs (three earned) off seven hits with five strikeouts. Senior left-handed pitcher Jack Raines (Akron/Archbishop Hoban) pitched an inning of relief, allowing five runs off six hits. Junior Academic All-OAC left hander Michael Hubert (Cincinnati/Oak Hills) went 1.1 innings and allowed two runs off four hits while freshman righty Garrett Miller (McMurray) finished off the afternoon with 0.2 innings and did not give up a hit. Raines, Hubert and Miller each recorded a pair of strikeouts.

Heidelberg continues on in the tournament to take on Ohio Northern University in another elimination game. That game began immediately following the BW game. Otterbein University awaits the winner in the championship on Saturday, May 11.
