Women’s Soccer Rallies in Second Half but Falls to OAC Leader Ohio Northern

BEREA, Ohio—The Baldwin Wallace University women's soccer team rallied in the second half but was defeated by Ohio Athletic Conference leader Ohio Northern  University, 2-1, in a conference game on Tressel Field inside George Finnie Stadium.

BW (10-8-1, 4-4 OAC) was led by sophomore forward Rachel Bender (Massillon/Massillon Jackson) as she scored the only goal for the Yellow Jackets.

Ohio Northern (13-3, 7-1 OAC) was led by senior forward Shelby Stephens and junior forward Anna Niemeyer as they each scored for the Polar Bears.  

The Polar Bears scored the only two goals of the first half. Stephens buried a shot off a pass from freshman midfielder Haley Moses in the fourth minute and Niemeyer was assisted by senior defender Missy Ward in the 13th minute.

In the second half, the Yellow Jackets outshot Ohio Northern 11-5 and scored the only goal. Bender closed out the scoring with her team-high 18th goal of the season at the 61:51 mark.  

Freshman goalkeeper Sophia Weidner (Medina) made two saves for BW.

The Yellow Jackets close out the regular season on Saturday, October 29 when they host Capital University in an Ohio Athletic Conference game on Seniors' and Parents' Night on Tressel Field inside George Finnie Stadium at 7:30 p.m. The Seniors' and Parents' Night ceremony will take place at halftime.

The 2016 OAC Tournament begins on Tuesday, November 1 when the third and fourth seeds will host the fifth and sixth seeds in the quarterfinals. In the semifinal games the top two seeds will host the winners of the quarterfinal games on Thursday, Novemeber 3. The OAC Championship game will be played at the highest remaining seed after the semifinals on Saturday, November 5 at a time to be announced.
