Women’s Soccer Defeats Wilmington in OAC Action

BEREA, OhioThe Baldwin Wallace University women's soccer team defeated Wilmington College, 5-1, in an Ohio Athletic Conference game on Tressel Field inside George Finnie Stadium.

BW (8-5-1, 2-1 OAC) was led by, sophomore forward Rachel Bender (Massillon/Massillon Jackson) and junior midfielder Alex Elliot (Blacklick/IMG Academy). Bender tallied up  two goals and added an assist for a game-high five points and Elliott scored two goals.

Senior defender Erika Good scored the only goal for Wilmington (5-3-3, 0-2-1 OAC).  

The Yellow Jackets scored the first two goals of the first half. Bender scored the first as she buried her team-high 10th goal of the season off a touch pass from junior forward Courtney Schutz (Mentor) at the 11:31 mark. Elliott chipped in the other BW goal from 25 yards out to give the Yellow Jackets a 2-0 lead. The Quakers cut the BW lead right before halftime when senior defender Erika Good headed in a goal off a corner kick from junior forward Stephanie Randolph in the 41st minute.

The Yellow Jackets scored the only three goals of the second half. Bender was assisted by Schutz again on her second goal of the game in the 54th minute, Elliott scored her second off a pass from Bender in the 56th minute and junior midfielder Anna Poptic (Dublin/Jerome) netted the final goal off a cross from sophomore midfielder Marissa Fabrizi (Brunswick) at the 71:01 mark.

Freshman goalkeeper Emma Bruno (Bethel Park, Pa.) improved to 5-2 on the year.  

BW is back in action on Wednesday, October 12 when it travels to University Heights to face Ohio Athletic Conference and cross-town rival John Carroll University on Wasmer Field inside Don Shula Stadium.
