Four Women’s Soccer Players Earn All-Ohio Honors

BEREA, Ohio—
Four Baldwin Wallace University women's soccer players have been named either to the Ohio Collegiate Soccer Association (OCSA) All-Ohio NCAA Division III team or the Academic All-Ohio Division III team.  

Senior Ohio Athletic Conference Defender-of-the-Year Kelly Gough (Hudson) and sophomore All-OAC forward Rachel Bender (Massillon/Jackson) landed on the All-Ohio first-team, and junior All-OAC midfielder Anna Poptic (Dublin/Jerome) was tabbed as second-team selection. In addition, Poptic was named an Academic All-Ohio first team selection and junior All-OAC Academic defender Lauren Haynam (Minerva) was named to the third-team.  

Gough, who earned her third All-Ohio first-team honor, scored a career-high tying four goals for eight points this season. She is a National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) third-team selection, three-time NSCAA All-Great Lakes Region pick, three-time All-OAC first-team selection and was named the OAC Defender-of-the-Year twice in her career. Gough played a school record tying 84 games, scored 17 goals and added four assists for 38 points in her career.

Bender, garners her second All-Ohio selection after a career-best season. She recorded career-bests in points (48), goals (19) and assists (9). In the regular season, she led the conference in points, and was second in goals and assists. Bender was named to the NSCAA All-Great Lakes third-team, is a two-time All-OAC first-team selection and an Academic All-OAC honoree. In two seasons, she has played in 44 games, tallied 30 goals and 13 assists for 73 points.

Poptic, was named to the All-Ohio team and All-Ohio Academic for the second consecutive season. This season, she scored a career-high tying three goals and added two assists for eight points. Poptic was tabbed as an All-OAC second-team selection and Academic All-OAC for the second straight season. She has played in 64 career games, scored nine goals and added seven assists for 25 points. In the classroom, Poptic is a public health major and carries a 3.76 grade point average.   

Haynam, garners her first All-Ohio Academic honor after a strong season on the back line. She started in 21 games and had one assist for one point this season. In her career, she is a two-time All-OAC Academic honoree. Haynam started in 66 games, scored two goals and added four assists for eight points. In the classroom, she is an accounting major and carries a 3.69 grade point average.  

BW finished the year with an overall record of 12-9-1 and an OAC mark of 5-4. The Yellow Jackets advanced to the OAC Tournament semifinals for the third consecutive year.
