Ayers Wins 150th Career BW Women’s Soccer Game on Seniors’ and Parents’ Night

BEREA, Ohio— Baldwin Wallace University women's soccer Head Coach Reid Ayers won his 150th career Yellow Jacket women's game on Seniors' and Parents' Night, 2-0, in an Ohio Athletic Conference game against Capital University on Tressel Field inside George Finnie Stadium.

BW (11-8-1, 5-4 OAC) was led by freshman goalkeeper Sophia Weidner (Medina). Weidner as she made a career-high 15 saves and improved to 6-6-1 on the year. Offensively, senior All-OAC defender Kelly Gough (Hudson) and sophomore defender Marissa Fabrizi (Brunswick) each scored for the Yellow Jackets.  

Capital (9-7-1, 6-2-1 OAC) outshot BW 27 to seven and put 17 shots on net, but Weidner held the Crusaders scoreless.

The Yellow Jackets scored the only goal of the first half when junior All-OAC forward Courtney Schutz (Mentor) sent a corner across the box that Gough headed in for her fourth goal of the season at the 32:41 mark to give BW a 1-0 lead.  

With eight minutes remaining in the second half Fabrizi put the game out of reach as she netted her third goal off of a cross from sophomore All-OAC forward Rachel Bender (Massillon/Jackson) to close out the scoring.  

The Yellow Jackets will be back in action on Tuesday, November 1 when as they will enter the OAC Tournament as the fifth seed. BW will travel to Westerville to face the fourth-seed Otterbein University in the quarterfinals at 7 p.m.

In the semifinal games the top two seeds will host the winners of the quarterfinal games on Thursday, Novemeber 3 and the OAC Championship game will be played at the highest remaining seed after the semifinals on Saturday, November 5 at a time to be announced.
