Women’s Soccer Scores Three Second Half Goals to Defeat Muskingum

MUSKINGUM, Ohio— The Baldwin Wallace University women's soccer team scored three second half goals to defeat  Muskingum University, 4-1, in an Ohio Athletic Conference game on Sherman Field.  

BW (9-6-1, 3-2 OAC) was led by sophomore All-OAC forward Rachel Bender (Massillon/Jackson) and sophomore midfielder Marissa Fabrizi (Brunswick). Bender scored two goals and Fabrizi scored a goal and assist for a career-high three points.

Muskingum (4-10, 1-4 OAC) was led by senior goalkeeper Liz Mitchell as she scored a game-high 13 saves.

The Yellow Jackets outshot the Fighting Muskies 21-3 and scored the only goal of the first half when Fabrizi netted her second goal of the season at the 40:50 mark to give BW a 1-0 lead at halftime.  

BW tacked on three more in second half to extend its lead to 4-0. Sophomore Bender scored off a cross from Fabrizi in the 47th minute, All-OAC midfielder Anna Poptic (Dublin/Jerome) was assisted by junior forward Courtney Schutz in the 48th minute and Bender netted her team leading 13th goal of the season off a pass from junior midfielder Alex Elliott (Blacklick/IMG Academy) in the 69th minute. Sophomore midfielder Amanda Sias closed out the scoring and netted the only goal of the game for Muskingum off a pass from junior forward Natalie O'Dell at the 87:36 mark.  

Freshman goalkeeper Sophia Weidner (Medina) held Muskingum scoreless in her 75 minutes of play and improved to 4-4-1 on the season.

BW is back in action on Tuesday, October 18 when it hosts Heidelberg University in an OAC match on Tressel Field inside George Finnie Stadium at 7 p.m.
