Women’s Soccer Nets Five Goals in Win at Defiance

DEFIANCE, Ohio—The Baldwin Wallace University women's soccer team defeated Defiance College, 5-0, in the final game of a men's and women's non-conference doubleheader on Winsper-Knobel Field.

BW (6-3-1) had five different players score and All-OAC sophomore forward Rachel Bender (Massillon/Jackson) tallied up four assists.

The Yellow Jackets outshot Defiance (0-5) 25-7 in the contest.  

BW opened the scoring as junior forward Courtney Schutz (Mentor) beat the Defiance goalkeeper off a pass from Bender at the 13:21 mark. In the 36th minute junior midfielder Anna Poptic (Dublin/Jerome) netted her first goal of the season to give the Yellow Jackets a 2-0 lead at halftime.

The Yellow Jackets scored their final three goals in the second half. Junior forward Alex Elliott (Blacklick/IMG Academy) scored in the 57th minute, sophomore midfielder Marissa Fabrizi (Brunswick) added to lead at the 59:18 mark and sophomore forward Joy Trillett (Broadview Heights/Wadsworth) closed out the scoring in the 78th minute. Bender was credited with assists on all three goals in the second half.

Freshman goalkeeper Emma Bruno (Bethel Park, Pa.) made four saves and picked up her first career shutout.

The Yellow Jackets are back in action on on Wednesday, September 28 when they travel to Grove City, Pennsylvania to face Grove City College in a non-conference game on College Field at 4 p.m.
