Women’s Soccer Wins Herb Lauffer Championship with Overtime Goal

ERIE, Pennsylvania—The Baldwin Wallace University women's soccer All-Ohio Athletic Conference sophomore forward Rachel Bender (Massillon/ Massillon Jackson) scored the game-winning goal in the 93rd minute to defeat the host Penn State-Behrend , 1-0, in the Herb Lauffer Memorial Tournament championship game.

Bender, was also named the most valuable player of the tournament. She scored two goals and added two assists for six points in the two games.  

In regulation Penn State-Behrend (1-1) outshot BW (2-1) 19-9 with the best opportunity coming in the 90th minute when freshman goalkeeper Emma Bruno (Bethel Park, Pa.) made a brilliant save as time expired in regulation.

Three minutes into overtime Bender beat her defender and knocked it past the Lions goalkeeper for the game-winner.

In net, Bruno made seven saves and was credited with her first career win.

The Yellow Jackets are back in action on Tuesday, September 6 when they host Oberlin College in a non-conference game on Tressel Field inside George Finnie Stadium at 7 p.m.
