Bender Records Second Hat Trick of 2016 in Women’s Soccer OAC Win Over Heidelberg

BEREA, Ohio—Sophomore All-Ohio Athletic Conference sophomore forward Rachel Bender (Massillon/Massillon Jackson) recorded her second hat trick of the season in the Baldwin Wallace University women's soccer, 3-0, victory over  Heidelberg University in an Ohio Athletic Conference game on Tressel Field inside of George Finnie Stadium.

Bender scored all three goals for BW (10-6-1, 4-2 OAC). Along with Bender, junior All-OAC forward Alex Elliott (Blacklick/IMG Academy) tallied up two assists for the Yellow Jackets.

Heidelberg (6-8-2, 1-5 OAC) was led by sophomore goalkeeper Alexandra Farmer as she made a game-high 13 saves.

In the first half, the OAC leader in points, scored her first goal 22 seconds into the game off a pass from freshman midfielder Amanda Cassella (Mentor) and her second goal was assisted by Elliott at the 9:16 mark to give BW a 2-0 lead at halftime.

In the second half, Bender completed the hat trick off and scored the final goal of the game off a cross from Elliott at the 61:15 mark.

Freshman goalkeeper Sophia Weidner (Medina) picked up her fifth career win and second career shutout.

BW is back in action on Friday, October 21 when it travels to Westerville to face Otterbein University in an Ohio Athletic Conference inside Memorial Stadium at 7 p.m.
