Johnson and Hill Earn USTFCCCA Division III National Awards

BEREA, Ohio --   Baldwin Wallace University senior two-time NCAA Division III All-American outdoor sprinter Kevin Johnson (Maple Heights/ Cleveland St. Ignatius) and second-year assistant sprint and hurdles coach Jordan Hill '09 have been named as 2014 USTFCCCA (United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association) Outdoor Track and Field Division III national award winners.

Johnson was selected as the USTFCCCA Men's Track Athlete of the Year after he was the NCAA Division III National Champion in both the 100 and 200-meter dashes at the Division III National Track and Field Championships last weekend Ohio Wesleyan University.

Johnson, who was the 2014 Ohio Athletic Conference Outdoor Sprinter of the Year and the USTFCCCA Division III Great Lakes Region Track Athlete of the Year, won the 100-meter dash in a time of 10.50 seconds. It capped an undefeated season against Division III opponents in the 100-meter.  Johnson then won the 200-meter dash in a career and Selby Stadium record time of 20.98 seconds. He also was an NCAA Division III All-American indoors this winter when he placed eighth in the 60-meter dash.

Hill, who is her second year as an assistant coach with the Yellow Jackets, was named the USTFCCCA Men's National Assistant Coach of the Year.   She mentored Johnson and fellow sprinter Ben Beidleman (Washington, D.C./ St. Anselm's Abbey), who placed eighth in the 200 meters and earned Division III All-America acclaim. Hill, a 2009 BW graduate, earned All-Ohio honors in the 200-meter dash and earned All-OAC honors as a member of the 4x100-meter relay team as a senior.

The 2014 BW outdoor track team had an outstanding season and sent 10 competitors to the NCAA Division III national meet. At the national meet, the Yellow Jacket men placed ninth and the women were 51st. Three BW student-athletes earned All-America accolades in four events.
