Johnson’s Two National Titles Lead BW on Final Day of NCAA Meet

DELAWARE, Ohio –  Baldwin Wallace University senior All-American, Ohio Athletic Conference Sprinter of the Year and Great Lakes Region Outdoor Track Athlete of the Year Kevin Johnson (Maple Heights/ Cleveland St. Ignatius) was the national champion in both the 100 and 200-meter dashes on the final day of competition at the NCAA Division III National Championships hosted by Ohio Wesleyan University at Selby Field.

Johnson capped off an undefeated 2014 season in the 100-meter dash as he won event in a time of 10.50 seconds and claimed his first national championship. He claimed his second national title when he won the 200-meter in a Selby Stadium-record and career-best time of 20.98 seconds.

Kevin ended a great BW track career as a two-time national champion in Division III," said 29-year Head Coach Dr. Bill Taraschke. "He is now known as the fastest man in Division III in 2014.

"We are proud of the hard work and leadership that Kevin has displayed the past four years<" continued Taraschke. "He capped his career by winning both sprints and competing on our 4x100-meter relay team (ninth place). We are very proud of Kevin."

In addition, sophomore Ben Beidleman (Washington, D.C./ St. Anselm's Abbey) earned his first  All-American accolade as he placed eighth in the 200-meter dash and crossed the finish line in a time of 21.74 seconds.

The Yellow Jacket men capped a strong spring season by finishing ninth as a team at the NCAA Meet with 21 points. BW also was fourth of 10 teams at the OAC Championship Meet and third of 20 schools at the All-Ohio Championship Meet.
