BEREA, OHIO -- Baldwin Wallace University sophomore sprinter Ben Beidleman (Washington, D.C./ St. Anselm's Abbey) has been selected as a first-team CAPITAL ONE Academic All-American. He is the fifth Yellow Jacket in 2013-2014 and second this spring to earn that acclaim.

Beidleman earned the honor after producing a perfect 4.0 grade point average in economics and accounting and being named as an NCAA Division III All-American in the 200-meter dash at the 2014 NCAA Championship Meet. Beidleman placed eighth in the 200 in a career-best 21.43 seconds and ran on the 10th place 4x100-meter relay team which entered the NCAA Meet with the best time in the Division III at 40.61 seconds. He also is both a two-time All-Ohio Athletic Conference and All-Ohio champion in indoor and outdoor track.

It is the mix of academics and athletics that both helps Beidleman symbolize the CAPITAL ONE Academic All-American program and the philosophy of the NCAA Division III student-athlete.  In addition to being an outstanding athlete, he is an Academic All-OAC and first-team CAPITAL ONE Academic All-District 7 selection. Beidleman is a Dean's List student, Jacket Scholar and member of the Alpha Lambda and Chhi Sigma Alpha honoraries.

Beidleman is the fifth Yellow Jacket to be named a CAPITAL ONE Academic All-American during the 2013-2014 academic year and 91st in the history of the University. The Academic All-America program dates back to 1970. Football student-athletes Zack Barley (Hudson),  David Flegal (Akron/ Richfield Revere) and Joe Kasper (Mentor) earned that acclaim last fall, and baseball student-athlete Brad Gugliotta (Twinsburg) earned CAPITAL ONE Academic All-America accolades this spring.

"Ben had an outstanding year both in the classroom and on the track," said 29-year Head Coach Dr. Bill Taraschke. "To be perfect in the classroom is quite an accomplishment all by itself. Ben not only was one of the best academically, he also was one of the best sprinters in all of Division III.

"Ben culminated a year of hard work by running his best 200 at the national championship meet," continued Taraschke. We look forward to having him back next season."

BW has a rich tradition of strong academics and athletics. Its ninety-one (91) all-time Academic All-Americans ranks first among OAC institutions and second among all small colleges in Ohio.
