400-Meter Relay Team Has Best Time in Division III

MEADVILLE, Pa. – Several members of the Baldwin Wallace University men's and women's track and field teams competed at the Gator Invitational hosted by Allegheny College.   This was the first of several last chance meets for the Yellow Jacket athletes to improve on their NCAA marks or to qualify for the NCAA National Meet.

The BW men were led by Ohio Athletic Conference Sprinter of the Year Kevin Johnson (Maple Heights/St. Ignatius) as he won the 100-meter dash in a time of 10.61 seconds.  Johnson ran the third fastest time in the NCAA during the prelims when he was clocked at 10.50 seconds. Johnson was also a member of the winning 4x100 meter relay team along with freshman Troy Robinson (Akron/Garfield), senior Shawn Cordes (Litchfield/Medina Buckeye) and sophomore Ben Beidleman (Washington, D.C./St. Anselm's Abbey) that ran the fastest time in the NCAA and set the the school-record at 40.61 seconds. Ben Beidleman also finished fourth in the 100-meter dash in a time of 11.07.

 
In field events, sophomore Tyler Burdorff (Painesville/Riverside) was fifth in the shot put with a throw of 47 feet and nine inches

The Yellow Jackets are back in action this Monday, May 12 when they travel to Delaware, Ohio to compete in the Ron Althoff Meet hosted by Ohio Wesleyan University.   The NCAA Division III Championships are on May 22-24 at Ohio Wesleyan.
