ALLIANCE, Ohio – The Baldwin Wallace University mens indoor track and field team are fifth after the first day of competition at the two-day Ohio Athletic Conference Indoor Track & Field Championship Meet at the University of Mount Union, inside the Peterson Fieldhouse in the McPherson Academic & Athletic Complex. The final day of competition is tomorrow, Saturday, March 1 at 12:00 noon.
The BW men have 17 points to stand fifth of 10 teams.
The Yellow Jacket men were led by junior heptathlete Brandon Eddy (Cuyahoga Heights) who finished second in the pole vault with a vault of 15-feet and 4.25 inches. In addition, sophomore thrower Tyler Burdoff (Painesville/ Riverside) placed third place in the weight throw with a toss of 57'9".
In the running events, senior Kevin Johnson (Maple Heights/ Cleveland St. Ignatius) placed fourth in his heat of the 200-meter dash with a time of 22.49 seconds and was one of four runners to break the previous OAC record. The distance medley team of juniors Gregory Blevins (Mentor), Aaron Long (Mishawaka, Ind. / Penn), Mike Miller (Strongsville) and Dusan Vasic (Broadview Heights/ Brecksville-Broadview Heights) finished sixth with a time of 10:54.14.
After the OAC Championships, the Yellow Jacket track and field teams are back in action on the weekend of March 14-15 when indoor qualifiers will compete at the 2014 NCAA Division III Indoor National Championship Meet at Nebraska Wesleyan University. The outdoor track and field season begins on March 14-15 at the Coastal Carolina (S.C.) University Invitational Meet.
