Women Tracksters Compete at Sparky Adams Invitational

BEREA, OHIO – The Baldwin Wallace University women's track and field teams competed today at the unscored Sparky Adams Invitational at The George Finnie Stadium.  The meet consisted of two NCAA Division I, five NCAA Division II, 11 NCAA Division III schools and one junior college.

The BW women field athletes were led by junior Victoria Brown (Berlin Center/Western Reserve) and freshman Melanie Winters (Stow/Stow-Munroe) placed first.  Brown won the high jump with a leap of 5'5" and Winters took the long jump with a mark of 18' 9.25".  Freshman Kim Gallavan (Auburn Township/Kenton) finished third in the shot put with a toss of 38'7.75"

In the running events, senior Tess Hoogeveen (Westerville/South) and junior Blair Vrcan (Mentor) went one and two in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with times of personal-best 12:53.91 and 12:54.30 respectively.  Senior Courtney Kiner (Sunbury/Ashland), junior Nicole Smith (Geneva) and Winters all had a second place finish.  Kiner crossed the finish in a time of 1:12.44 in the 400-meter hurdles, Smith ran the 400-meter dash in a time of 1:00.24 and Winters finished in a time of 4.97 in the 100-meter hurdles. Senior Shaina Kovatch (Parma/Valley Forge) and senior Kaylan Lemon (Canton/Massillon Perry) both brought home thirds.  Kovach crossed the finish line at 11:03.80 in the 3,000-meter run and Lemon went 12.77 in the 100-meter dash.

Select Yellow Jacket individuals will be back in action when they travel to Des Moines, Iowa to compete at the Drake Relays on April 25-27.   BW will send select individuals to the Toledo Invitational on Thursday, May 2 and will close out the season at the Gator Invitational hosted by Allegheny (Pa.) College on Friday, May 9.
