BW Women Second at Season-Opening Mid-January Indoor Meet

BEREA, OHIO – The Baldwin Wallace University women's indoor track and field team opened its 2013 season at the BW Mid-January Meet on the Harrison Dillard Track inside the Lou Higgins Center.  The Yellow Jackets finished second of seven teams with 152 points.

The BW women were led by freshman Melanie Winters (Stow/ Stow-Munroe Falls), senior Stephanie Shockley (Tiffin/ Columbian) and junior Nicole Smith (Geneva). Winters finished first in the long jump mark (17-feet and 0.75 inches), the 55-meter hurdles (8.69 seconds) and was a member of the winning 4 x 200-meter relay team along with senior Lauren Nanni (Parma/ Padua Franciscan), junior Sheuquella Greeno (Lima) and freshman Ashley Wakut (Seven Hills/Normandy) as the group took first place with a time of 1:50.76.

Shockley tied for first in the pole vault as she cleared a mark of 10'0' and placed third in the triple jump with a mark of 31'6.75'.   

Smith captured the 400-meter dash in a time of 1:01.40 and was a member of the winning 4 x 400-meter relay team along with freshmen Sam Lang (Akron/ Green), Abby Snow (Massillon/ Jackson) and Wakut as they that crossed the line in a time of 4:13.25.

In addition in the field events, junior Victoria Brown (Berlin Center/ Western Reserve) tied for first in the high jump with a leap of 4'11.75" and Snow tied for third with a mark of 4'9.75".

Placing second and third in the weight throw were freshman Maggie Urban (Cleveland) and sophomore Savannah Moore (Burbank/ Northwestern) with marks of 37'4.50" and 36'11", respectively, and Snow placed second with a mark of 15'9".

In addition in the running events, Nanni finished third in the 55-meter dash as she crossed the finish line in 7.96 seconds, junior Brooke Hradisky (Aurora) placed second in the 800-meter in a time of 2:26.84 and Greeno took third in 200 meters in 28.61 seonds.

The Yellow Jacket track and field teams are back in action on Friday, January 25 when the teams travel to Alliance to compete in the Ohio Athletic Conference North Split Meet hosted by the University of Mount Union inside the McPherson Academic and Athletic Complex (MAAC) at 5:00 p.m.  The next home meet is on Friday, February 8 when the BW hosts the Mid-February Meet on the Harrison Dillard Track at 5:00 p.m.
